The Circle of Control - What's Actually in Your Control (And What Isn't)

She was asking me:

“Is working in MedTech more work-life balanced than Pharma?”
“Should I go deeper and narrower rather than wider and more generalist?”
“Is a startup safer than an established company in terms of job security?”

My client was clearly looking for the best strategy to make the “right” decisions, choose the “good” options, and ultimately gain some control over her future.

And I totally get that. Most of us want to get as close as possible to the life we’d like to have.

Yet…

We know there’s only so much we can control, and “being strategic” doesn’t come with a guaranteed outcome.

What we can control, though, is a lot: gathering information, asking questions, weighing the pros and cons, listening to our intuition, seeking advice, and making the best decision we can based on what we know, feel, and see today.

And then, whether it’s MedTech or Pharma, startup or corporate, it’s about making peace with the parts that aren’t ours to control.

Yes, easier said than done, I know. I’m still practising it myself, and probably always will be. 💪🌻

What helps you focus on what’s in your control and make peace with what isn’t?
